Water Bound

A summer must-do: Grab your friends or family and float the American River in a raft from American River Raft Rentals.

This leisurely float mixes in a little whitewater action in the San Juan rapids. Or, stay cool on a stand-up paddleboard (SUP) or kayak on Lake Natoma. The Sacramento State Aquatic Center offers a variety of affordable rentals. Adjoining Nimbus Flat Lake Natoma State Park offers lake-side picnic tables, swimming, and access to the American River Parkway Trail. In the evening, hit the pool at one of Rancho Cordova’s many hotels.

WHITEWATER

For thrill seekers, head up Highway 50 to the South Fork of the American River, where Class II-III rapids await. For big fist-pumping action, try the Middle Fork or North Fork of the American River with Class IV rapids.

Getting out on the river is fun, but it's important to be prepared! Strong currents, cold water, uneven river bottoms, changing water levels, and possible debris can impact your splash session in and around Rancho Cordova. Buckle up and don't forget to wear a life jacket. Kids under 13 MUST wear a life preserver according to local ordinance SCO 13.08.301 (a).
