Set in 2008, this acclaimed drama centers around four Iranians attending a TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) class in Karaj, Iran. Under the guidance of Marjan, an anglophile instructor who forbids Farsi in her classroom, the students grapple with translating Ricky Martin lyrics and navigating complex prepositions. As they explore humor in English and consider what they might sacrifice, the class faces challenges and revelations about their identities and future. As some cling to their native tongue, others eagerly embrace the opportunities that a new language presents.
